I am not a techy. Is this something I should do/trust?

Thanks Alison. I had a more than ‘passing’ look into the details of this yesterday, but didn’t see enough reliable info to convince me that it was a safe thing to attempt just now. I got the impression that installing Linux onto laptops and desktops was the first move, upon which everything else would later depend. But I wasn’t confident enough to proceed and I’m still left with a hunch that should I make an error, I could be left high and dry! I want to do it for all the right reasons, along with moving to a de-Googled phone, but for now, I don’t have the courage to take what feels like a bit of a leap into the dark…!
