In World War II if you escaped from a Japanese prison camp, cruel reprisals would be made against the still captive inmates. This would ensure anybody contemplating / openly planning an escape in the future would be ratted on to the Japanese by the petrified prisoners. The BBC have a polished, but very similar ethos for every staff member to live up to in the year 2021.

Even to the extent that sensitive BBC staff who feel threatened by their public paymasters feel at liberty to hurl abuse… then to receive protection from on high.
