What’s the difference between a Memorandum of Understanding and a deal?

The mainstream media keep WRONGLY referring to the US / Iran memorandum of understanding as a ‘deal’. Please can you put these fools straight? Many thanks.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) is a formal but typically non-binding agreement that outlines shared intentions and cooperation between parties, while a deal usually refers to a binding contract or transaction that finalizes specific terms and obligations. Georgia Institute of Technology Wikipedia
