In light of the recent Deepwater Horizon Oil spill and your inquiry today ref health and safety in the North Sea.
I wish to draw your attention to an ongoing situation which could
result in x25 magnitude of the Deepwater Horizon oil Spill and I
believe the previous UK Government have failed their duty of care on
the matter.
In particular, I refer to the Chad/Cameroon Pipeline (CCP)
and the Offshore Floating Storage Tanker (OFST) which is a 40 year old single hull rust bucket tanker riddled with asbestos.
There is evidence available that the CCP has been operating in a legal void since it was illegally commissioned in 2003.
The World Bank have washed their hands on this particular project, ditto for the EIB and the DFID. The OFST has been operating WITHOUT any
environmental protection plans or Area Specific Oil Spill Response Plans (ASOSRP) and is expected to contine in this illegal void for another 35 years.
In the event of the OFST being sunk from fire,collision etc, the South Atlantic would be polluted with 100 million gallons of crude oil and WOULD affect several Commonwealth States.
In light of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, I feel it would be prudent of your committtee to investigate these claims and the wilfull neglect of the former Labour Government and the DFID in particular.
